TraXmark glossary
The terms our product is built around — explained plainly, in every language, with no marketing fog.
- Verdict
- The classification assigned to each engagement signal (open, click): HUMAN, PRIVACY_PROXY, SECURITY_SCAN, AI_CRAWLER or UNKNOWN. A verdict is a probability-based judgment with evidence — never a certainty.
- Evidence Engine
- The TraXmark subsystem that collects evidence for each signal (client behavior, network behavior, timing, clicks) and produces a verdict with a confidence score and an explanation log.
- Confidence score
- A value from 0.0 to 1.0 attached to every verdict. Higher means the evidence more strongly supports the classification. Scores are shown, not hidden.
- HUMAN
- A signal classified as very likely produced by a person opening the email in a real mail client — based on residential network behavior, browser signals and plausible timing.
- Privacy proxy (PRIVACY_PROXY)
- A signal produced by a privacy service fetching content on the recipient's behalf — most famously Apple Mail Privacy Protection, which pre-fetches every pixel regardless of reading.
- Security scanner (SECURITY_SCAN)
- A signal caused by an organization's security gateway or antivirus scanning the message and its links before (or instead of) the recipient.
- AI crawler (AI_CRAWLER)
- A signal produced by AI assistants or search crawlers fetching content (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and similar), not by a human reader.
- UNKNOWN
- The honest bucket: evidence is insufficient for a reliable classification. TraXmark reports unknown rather than guessing.
- Tracking pixel / open signal
- A tiny image in an email whose download signals that the message was rendered. It is an open signal — never proof that a person read the content.
- Apple MPP
- Apple Mail Privacy Protection: Apple's mail infrastructure pre-loads images via relays, making every pixel fire. Classic trackers count these as opens; TraXmark classifies them as proxy signals.
- Quiet hours
- A sending rule that holds campaign delivery outside configured hours, so recipients are not contacted late at night.
- Deal-pass
- A time-boxed, revocable access pass to a data room for a specific counterparty in a deal — instead of sending attachments.
- Deliverability guardian
- Pre-send checks (suppression lists, content and domain readiness) that reduce the risk of landing in spam.
- Mail merge
- Personalized bulk sending: each recipient gets their own message with per-recipient tokens, not one BCC blast.
Why definitions matter
Most email-tracking dashboards hide what an 'open' actually means. TraXmark publishes its vocabulary because the difference between a signal and a proof is the difference between honest and misleading analytics.
FAQ
- What is a verdict in email tracking?
- A verdict is TraXmark's classification of an engagement signal (open or click) into HUMAN, PRIVACY_PROXY, SECURITY_SCAN, AI_CRAWLER or UNKNOWN, each with a confidence score and an evidence log.
- Why isn't an open proof of reading?
- A tracking pixel fires when an email client downloads an image. Proxies, scanners and AI crawlers download images too — and a client can render an email nobody actually reads. An open is a signal, not proof.
